Fairtrade Fortnight - Sustainable Cotton Farming
At Have No Limits, part of being an eco-friendly clothing brand is to exclusively use sustainable materials in all of our clothing. One of these materials we use is organic cotton. Although only 13% of cotton farming is currently produced sustainably, we firmly believe it is the future of cotton farming which is why we’re pleased to promote Fairtrade Fortnight. An online festival that will promote how Fairtrade Standards can improve the environmental and social footprint of various industries.
Traditional cotton farming vs FAirtrade and organic cotton farming.
Traditional cotton farming methods rely heavily on herbicides and pesticides to protect cotton plants from weeds and insects. However a lot of these pesticides are extremely toxic to people and the environment, many of which are actually banned in Western countries. Often is the case that Indian cotton workers work barefoot and without masks which increases exposure to these harmful chemicals, leading to serious health problems. The heavy use of these chemicals also results in the deterioration of soil quality and groundwater contamination, which is the main source of drinking water for the majority of rural populations in developing countries.
With the increase in Fairtrade certified cotton farms, the negative environmental and social impact is five times lower than traditional cotton farming. The environmental benefits of these Fairtrade Standards include a massive reduction in the use of harmful pesticides along with the correct disposal of chemical containers and integrating sustainable farming methods.
We are proud to use organic cotton in our clothing and we are working with our supply chain towards our goal of using Fairtrade certified organic farming sources exclusively, which aligns with our brands core values of embracing nature and providing value.
Along with Fairtrade certification, we are also proud to share that our clothing is PETA certified 100% vegan. Our entire clothing line is exclusively produced by GOTS, RCS, SEDEX, BSCI or Oeko-Tex certified suppliers. These certifications are vital to ensuring that we are doing our part to not only reduce our carbon footprint, but to preserve and protect wildlife and the environment throughout our supply chain.
